National Review of School Music

-Augmenting the diminished

A brand spanking new report on the size and shape of music education in Australian schools...

It's fair to say that generally speaking, the joy of making music is fairly low priority in many Australian communities, but there's still hope... In this day and age, primary school is becomming more and more the first port of call for collective cultural exchange for many Australians.

It is thus that the Australian Government and the Department of Education, Science and Training have funded this review of music in early childhood and primary education under the Quality Outcomes Programme. The Centre for Learning, Change and Development at Murdoch University have carried out the Review on behalf of the Australian Government...Yay!

This means, for those out there who think and believe that they can't do it because they are not musical people...there is no such thing as a "musical person" or a "not musical person", it simply comes down to how much exposure you've had to identifying and organising sounds and whether or not you are interested in trying. Luckily for us, most people in our culture do at least listen to lots of sound and music, so that's half of the job done.
